Fight Unjust Censorship!

Four congressmen proposed a bill to the House of Representatives entitled Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005. This bill became law on June 16th of 2006 because both the House of Representatives and the Senate passed the bill after some amendments, and the President signed the bill. Senator Ted Stevens wanted the bill to be amended to include cable and satellite transmissions. This will cause broadcasters to censor themselves further than they already do. There are several problems with this, and one of them is that indecency is a matter of opinion. The things that one person finds indecent may not be indecent to others. There was an article at Yahoo! News (no longer available via Yahoo! News) about this subject, who stated the President of the United States said, "parents are the first line of defense and can just 'turn it off' ". This is coming from the country's leading conservative, because he seems to understand the concept of freedom of expression. Of course, like most politicians, the time comes, they do a complete 180 turn. We the people must join together to show the government that we are responsible for our own lives. Censorship is not the answer. If people are afraid that the children will be exposed to something inapproriate, then the children need to be taught what is right and what is wrong. When it comes to TV, the parents have the power to control what their children watch. Below
